Dentist visit

We got home at midnight last night and Owen was asleep right away. At 1:30 he woke up sweating and screaming but fell asleep a minute later on my lap. I brought him into bed with Gabe and I. At 2:30am Owen woke up screaming again. This time we would not settle back down so I took him downstairs. We saty on the living room couch together for half an hour with Owen crying and shifting his position all the time. He finally asked for a milk bottle (which he chugged) and then I put him back to bed. I am so glad he is drinking – he hasn’t had much to drink since Monday and I am afraid he is getting dehydrated.

Then Owen woke up at 8am. We thought he would sleep more as he was up all night, but he woke up happy and wanted to get on with his day. So we got up and watched some cartoons. Owen drank my whole glass of grape juice, which was a large glass. I am so glad he is drinking lots!

Owen had a Dentist appointment today – his 2nd one. This one wasn;t as good as last time. Owen cried and didn’t like the chair. So he sat in my lap, and laid down with his head in the Dentists lap. The Dentist looked in Owens mouth 3 times and said that ll his 2-year molars seem to be coming in at once (the Doctor at the Hospiatl had told us that too).

Owens gums were bleeding way worse than yesterday and the Dentist said it was from me not cleaning them properly. What I need to do now is hold Owen down and properly clea his teeth and gums once a day every day. He said Owens gums might bleed while I do it for 2 weeks. But if they bleed for more than 3 weeks, than call him and come back because that is not good.

Owen also has skin growing between his two front teeth. If that doesn’t go away when he loses his abby teeth, the Dentist will have to cut that skin back. He said that is normal.

Owen didn’t have anything to eat all day, although he did have one more milk bottle before bed that night. He also had a 4 hour nap in th eafternoon.

Hospital visit

The three of us spent the evening at the Hospital tonight. Owens fever finally broke tonight around diner time. It has been between 102 and 104 since Tuesday. Papa put him to bed tonight while I was out at a baby shower. Half an hour after Owen went to bed he woke up screaming and covered in sweat. After at least a half an hour of screaming, writhing, and now calming down Gabe decided to take Owen to the Hospital. I met them there. We waited there from 9-11:30pm until we were tired of waiting and decided to go home. Owen was very tired, and had long since calmed down. He drank a juice box at the Hospital and ate a few squares of a Caramilk bar (left over from Halloween). That was the first food or drink he had had in over 24 hours. The nurses begged us to stay and said a new Doctor was coming in soon. We stayed and saw a Doctor within 10 minutes. He said Owens glands and throat were swollen, and Owens tonsils were red and inflamed. Owen also has some bleeding gums (we noticed this a little bit yesterday too). He gave Owen some Tylenol and sent us home. Owen was very well behaved for the Doctor and even sat on his lap. He said he has an owie in his mouth.

starting to feel better


After a pancake lunch (hey, I'll give him whatever he wants to eat after not eating solids for so long) this is all Owen wanted to do this afternoon - wear his sunglasses and cowboy hat, brush his teeth, and watch tv.

sick... ugh

Owen is sick. Well, we are all sick, but Owen has it the worst. He has an ear, nose, and throat infection. And a wicked cough too. He says his owie is in his neck (he means his throat). He hasn't eaten solid foods in over a week (besides the occasional piece of chocolate, and 1 bite of ham on Sunday).

Hopefully he will get better soon, but he seems to be gettign worse everyday. Lovely. We have a doctors appointment on Friday. How lovely is our medical system than when a child under 2 years old is this sick (and had a fever of 101 on Friday night) that the doctor books an appointment for him at the end of the week.

Haircut and hats



Owen has a new haircut and it makes him look so grown up. Here is Owen playing with his cowboy hat (and saying "yee haw!") and trying on his new Halloween costume. Owen is going to be a pirate. We are teaching him to say "Arrrrr, matey!".

singing and playing

Owen, all on his own, sang "A, B, C, D, E, D, K" today. And he also sang "Now I know my A, B, C’s, next time…" I was so proud of him! He is so quick to pick new things up like that!

And later today, my girlfriend Jae and her boys, Jeremy and Adam, came over, and Owen crawled up the tree house all by himself. He smiled at me so big from the top – he was proud of him too!

Singing!

Owens favorite movie has always been "Musical Baby". He now asks for it by name – he calls it "Cul Baby" (he misses the music part in the title). And when he knows what parts are coming up he says them first (like "ta" and "dee"). Similarly, Owen is learning rymes and songs. In "Baa Baa Black Sheep" Owen sings the Baa Baa part, and in the alphabet song, Owen sings "Q, R", "W", and "Now I know…" It’s great to see how quickly he picks up on things!

Since the move...

As you may know already, we moved into our new house on Aug 7th. Here are some shots of Owen exploring his new domicile...
Here is Owen playing on his new quad... it actually broke and that was the only time he ever played on it becasue there were no others to exchange it wioth when we brought it back to the store, so he never got a new one. He will one day.
And here is Owen playing his new favorite game 'peek-a-boo'. He is looking at my through his laundry hamper. Owen likes to put it on his head and walk around thinking no one can see him. It is very cute.
And here is Owen hiding in the bathroom. We play chase and he will run and hide behind this thing in the downstairs bathroom and stick his little head as far behind it as he can (which isn't very far) and then I come in and 'find' him and then we laugh. He loves this game. In our old house his favorite hiding place was in his bedroom, behind the crib. He does like to hide in his bedroom closet, or tyhe main hall closet, but when downstairs there are no closets, so he hides in the bathroom. It's not the cleanest place to hide, but it could be worse. And this way I make sure to keep the bathroom really really clean.

"My new house"

Owen has a new house - and a new room - and lots of places to play!

We moved on Tuesday into a bigger (much bigger) house with a yard, and Owen is so excited! All three of us feel like this new house is our home now (although I think Owen felt that way before Gabe and I).

This is Owen (yesterday) pushing his lawnmower... er, rather... he is mowing the lawn! My friend Pam gave Owen this lawnmower and he loves it!

And here is Owen this morning posing with his bear. Now that Owen has a whole room for his toys where he can play, he seems to have renewed interest in his old toys. But Gabe bought Owen a little battery operated quad yesterday, so I'll post pictures of Owens excursions on that soon (once we give it to him).

And here is Owen playing in a moving box. He made us keep some of the empty boxes around for him to play in.

Camping at Tunkwa Lake


Owen is pretty upset to be home now. After camping at Cultus Lake one week and the Tunkwa Lake the next, being cooped up inside while we packand get ready to move in 10 days sure seems boring in comparison. He wantes to go for boat or wheeklbarriow rides, chase ducks and bugs and sit around a camfire eating marhsmallows. Inside sucks compared tobeign outside in good weather surrounded by friends.
