No more lunch for Mom & Dentist visit for Owen

Well, that’s the last time I go out for lunch in, say, four or five years. Kelly and I met up at E Yong’s for lunch today and I had about 3 bites before Owen went mental. He has never been so difficult during a meal out before. I think he is just too old, yet not old enough, to eat in restaurants. So I fed him, and entertained him while Kelly ate. And then she fed and entertained him while I ate. At least she was good about it, and didn’t mind not having a nice chance to visit.

And I took Owen to the Dentist today. What a joke. There is absolutely no need to go to the Dentist with a kid this young. He took all of 10 seconds to look at my kids teeth and then ask me what I was doing. And what I am doing is perfect, so they booked another appointment for April of next year, and that was that.

Here Owen is before the Dentist tried to touch his teeth. He wasn't smiling after that.

Are girls this gross?

Owen has a cold and he is very snotty sometimes. Right now would be one of those times. I have been trying to keep his nose clean all morning, but every 15 minutes or so, he needs another nose wipe.

So a few minutes ago I picked him up as he was tired, and I saw he had snot running all the way down to his mouth. Gross. So I went to the table to get Kleenex, and within that 10 seconds he had wiped his face on my shoulder- twice. So the first wipe put all the snot on my shirt. The second wipe put all that snot into his eyes. Lovely! So now he's cranky, tired, and his eyes are full of snot. And he doesn't like me wiping his face normally, so he really didn't like it then.

videos

I have a great video of Owen, but don't know how to upload them. I tried the same way I up laod photos, but it didn't work.

Anyone know how to upload a video?

Here's a sneak peak...

We went to a costume party on Saturday night and wore our Halloween costumes.
Owen was the cutest - he is a baby elephant!

the crawling master

Owen used to only be able to crawl on carpet. Well, he has now mastered crawling on laminate flooring. And he's quick! We bought an area rug for downstairs last week and he's even quicker on that! He makes a bee line for the videos and DVD's whenever he's on it. We're looking for a new entertainment unit with doors we can close... and lock.

fun at the pumpkin patch

Seattle trip

Owen and I, and my Mom and Dad, all went to Seattle this past weekend for my Uncle Jim's 60th Birthday celebration. It was Owens first overnighter in America, and in a hotel. And he was great!

This is my cousin Cori (holding Owen), and my Auntie Diane who is holding Cori's son Isaiah. Of all the cousins, I think Owen and Isaiah look the most alike - both blonde boys with deep set eyes and big cheeks. Plus they are both very easy going and good natured. We are lucky Moms!

Lots of family member s were there - Uncle Mark and Auntie Diane, the four of us, Auntie Judy and Uncle Jim, Cousin Cori and her two boys Sam and Isaiah, and cousins Devon and Val and their two kids Sara and Cameron.

On the way down to Seattle we hit the Outlet stores and got some shopping done. Owen, of course, did the best and made out with a bunch of new clothes. I did ok - one top. And my Mom did ok (meaning my Dad didn't buy anything).

Saturday morning we went to Shari's for a big family breakfast. Owen was tired, and really took a liking to Devon. He would reach him arm out to Devons arm, and then when Devon looked over, Owen would rest his head on Devons shoulder area and smile up at him. It was so cute! Owen must have done it over a dozen times throughout the meal. We got a bunch of pictures of it!

And Owen also got to sit at the big kids table (well, it's actually the little kids table, but they are all bigger than him). Her he is sitting with (L-R): Isaiah, Auntie Judy, Cameron (green vest), Sam (orange shirt), and Sarah. It didn't last too long though. He wanted to be near to me... and

cousin Devon.

Apples

I gave Owen my apple after I was done (at least almost done) eating it. He has been gnawing on it for half an hour now, and he is still happy with it. I also tore off little pieces for him to eat which he loved. I never have a problem with him eating his fruits –it’s just everything else he has decided he doesn’t like to eat.

Sleepy boy

Owen hasn’t fallen asleep for his morning nap until well after 11 am for a little while now. But this morning he fell asleep in my arms on the couch after a bottle at 9:50am. I think with him teething his schedule is all out of whack. But I loved holding him in my lap, with his head on my chest and feeling him fall asleep. I will miss that when he is all grown up.

I love fall time

Fall is my favorite time of year. And this is Owen's first fall, so there is all sorts of fun stuff we get to do together. One of those things is take pictures with gourds. The pumpkin was too big to take home in the stroller, or we would have bought one of those too. That will be our next photo shoot as we are going to a pumpkin patch tomorrow with our friends in the Play Group.

23 lbs!

I brought Owen to the Health Clinic today to weigh him as it has been almost a months since I he was last weighed. I have been telling people he is 22 lbs, and I think that is pretty close to accurate. The scale said 23 lbs 6 oz, but he was fully clothed and holding a duck. So I figure 22 or 22.5 lbs is probably accurate.

#3 is here!

Can you see it? Ok, I can't even see it here, but I promise it's there. Owen's third tooth is in and it must have come in full force because I swear it wasn't there a week ago, and now it's half way through.

Look at how big my gorgeous boy is getting!

My new friend Jacob

We've actually known Jacob and his Mom Karen for a while now, but today we got to visit with them and the rest of the playgroup at Jacob's house. We missed visiting last week as Owen was sick, so it was really nice to see everyone again.

This is Jacob in the front, with Owen, Charlie, and Olivia in the back.

This is Owen and Charlie with Jacob in the background. It's nice to have another boy in the group. Now Owen and Charlie don't feel so out numbered. And with Kaelen and Presley missing play group today, I think we had just as many boys as girls. That's a first!

I love Owen's tongue! He's been sticking it out funny for a little while now. I don't know why, but I love when I catch it on film!

Owen didn't want to show his friends his new trick (crawling) today, but he did wave a little bit.

This is Keira and Owen. Keira is walking all over tea place, but needs something to brace herself on. At one point she used Owen. He didn't mind.

P.S. Heather, I love your camera!

Little drummer boy

Whatever Owen wants to do when he is older is fine by me. I will support him in everything he chooses to do - music, sports, etc. But if I could pick one thing for him to do, it would be to play the drums. We are a very musical family, so drums would fit right in.

Owen has hit drums before and loved them, but he has never played them like this before. These drums are my brother Nathan's. I think Owen would have been just as happy to suck on the sticks as play the drums, but he sure loved it when we both held the sticks and I helped him make noise!

Owen and Big Mummo

Owen loves his Big Mummo! Mummo means Grandma in Finnish, so Gabe's Mom is Mummo, and Gabe's Grandma is Big Mummo. Now that we made that name up for her, all the kids are calling her Big Mummo.

On the move

Owen started crawling this weekend! We were at my in-laws house, and Gabe came running down the stairs to where I was sleeping and told me I had to come upstairs with my camera quick. So I go running up there and Owen was crawling!

These pictures show a play by play. And as you can tell by the last photo, he wasn't happy for long. But he has been crawling pretty much ever since.

And now that we are home he is very unhappy with our laminate flooring.

"Mama!"

Gabe and I think Owen said his first word yesterday– Mama. He has been trying so hard lately to say it, and I always said it didn’t count until he could repeat it after we said it. And that happened yesterday. I said "say Mama", and Owen said "Mama". He actually said it a lot while he was sick. But October 5th is the day that will be written in his baby book under first word said.

Owen is feeling better

I have stopped putting the blankets down on the laminate flooring. Owen likes to be able to scootch around on the slippery floor. He can push himself backwards, and even pull himself forwards pretty good! He can scootch all over the great room now!

And Owen is settling himself back to bed when he wakes up in the morning because he can find his soother and put it in his mouth! It’s great! He woke up at 7, and then went back to bed until 10am this morning! Yay for sleeping in!

Owen was GREAT today at the gym. He was way better by himself than with the lady. And he is playing happy now. He’s sucking on my car keys, but he is happy. I found out I was using the nasal spray wrong. So I am now using it right. And later we will go for a walk to buy some veggies and I can listen to my new iPod. I am excited. It is so nice to have Owen feeling better!

Still sick

Owen went to the Doctor today with Papa. He doesn't have an ear infection - it is just a cold. But he isn't any better yet. He is pretty miserable, and hasn't even smiled for 3 days. Sigh. Hopefully he'll be better in a few days. He is so cranky, I don't even think HE can stand himself right how.

Owen is sick :(

Owen is sick. He has a dry cough and a runny nose. He HATES taking his medicine too. It doesn't seem to begiving him a headache, or an upset tummy, so maybe it is just a cold. Hopefully this will pass quickly.
