Owen and Baby Adam
My friend Sarah Kamp (Jae to me since Jr. high school) had her second baby boy this past July. His name is Adam. We got to go visit them a few days ago, and they came to visit us today. Owen likes baby Adam. Well, let me re-phrase that. Owen likes to touch baby Adam.
Owen and I are working on being "gentle". When I touch his face softly I say "gentle", and then I take his hand and touch my face and I say "gentle". So when Owen grabs at baby Adams face, I take his hand and say "gentle". And then Owen looks up at me, smiles, and gently grabs baby Adams face. It's a work in progress.

Budding romance? Or big bully?
This is Kalean - Owens friend since birth. She is 3 weeks younger than Owen. Kaelens Mom works with Owens Papa, and now she and I are friends.
Owen has spent a lot of time with Kaelen at the Baby Time Drop In at the Health Clinic. We haven't been all summer, so Kaelen and her Mom came to our house yesterday for a visit. It was nice to see them again!
Owen and Kaelen used to lie on the ground and hold each others hands. It was so cute. But yesterday, Owen kept stealing all of Kaelens toys from her. Whatever she would play with, Owen wanted. And Owen would take. Which is weird, because Owen has never done that before. He is usually ok with sharing and has never been a bully.
Hopefully Owen gorws out of this "bully" phase or he won't have any friends... never mind girl friends!

Tooth and Carrots
Can you see Owens tooth? Look closely - you may even want to clik on the photo to enlarge it. His tooth is on the bottom - in the middle.
And can you see how much fun Owen had with lunch today? He didn't really seem interested in eating, so I let him play with his food. He was much more interested in it then - but still not hungry.

New bath tub
Owen had a new tub experience the other night. After getting completely filthy during dinner (who doesn't love potatoes and carrots in their ears and up their nose?!) I decided to bathe Owen in our kitchen sink. My two girlfriends who were over said their parents bathed them in the kitchen sink when they were little. It made sense to me - perfect size, I don't hurt my knees or back bending over, and we have a vegetable sprayer (a.k.a. Baby shower). So I gave it a shot and he loved it! So until Owen is too big for the sink, it will serve as his new tub.

Which should I be?
I was going to make a perogy costume for Owen this Halloween, but he is too bigf. Which is sad, becasue he would look so cute with a dollop of sour cream with bacon bits on his head.
So now I am in search of the best Halloween costume out there. These are my favorites so far... what is your favorite?

Not such a fun time swimming today
Owen didn’t really like swimming today. He was cranky and needed his sucker through almost the whole lesson. He cried when it was time to swim on his back, and he did NOT like the waterslide. Neither did I. We got jerked around on the corners and I lost my footing at the end and we both went under.
This is where we have lessons. The section we swim in is the far area near the tug boat thing. Can you see the slide we went on?

Here come Owen's chompers!
Owen is cutting his first tooth!
He had a poopy diaper, and as Gabe is a man, he thought it would take two of us to change it. So I held Owens arms while Gabe changed the diaper. Owen began to chew on my fingers, and that is when I felt it. His bottom middle to left tooth is coming through! Gabe and I both had to hold down his hands, open his mouth, and get his tongue out of the way to see it, but it’s there!
A very busy day!
Owen and I followed Victoria Jordan and her kids (Avery, Jonah, and Christian), plus about 20 Japanese exchange students and their host families, all around today. The purpose? Sight seeing! And as Owen and I really wanted to be tourists in our own towns this summer, we signed up as soon as we could.
First we went to Hells Gate (past Yale, almost all the way to Boston Bar), and rode the air tram. Then we went to a hazelnut farm in Agassiz, went on a tour, took some pictures, and ate yucky nuts. Then we went to a dairy farm, went on a tour, pet some cows and goats, and ate cheese and ice cream. Yummy! And we ended the day by blueberry picking at an organic blueberry farm in Chilliwack. It was great. Owen and I both had a great time!

Super Store summer sale on now!
I went to Super Store today and bought Owen some new clothes – sized 12 months. I got him Winnie the Pooh pj’s, a few t-shirts, a pair of grey pin-striped pants (too cute!), and green shorts. I also got him a toy gum ball machine that he can put his roll-in balls into. It plays music, and lights go on and off. There was a great sale on – most of the clothes items were only $3 each. I also got some more baby food. Owen tried peas today for the first time. He didn’t really like them, In fact, he cried after a few bites. He stopped when I gave him sweet potato. He loves sweet potato! Yesterday I rounded up all of Owens clothes that are still in his room, but are too small for him. So pretty much all 6-9 month sized clothes. I folded them all and took photos.
Owen now fits perfectly into 12 months sized clothes. With the weather being how it is, and not deciding if it is going to be hot, warm, or even cold, I have to be prepared and have long sleeves, short sleeves, pants, and shorts for Owen in this size. That is why he has so many 6-9 month sized clothes - I had to cover all weather conditions. So then I made 2 piles - clothes to keep for baby #2 (waaaaaay down the road), and clothes to give away. I tried to be ruthless, but I kept all my "favorites".
But the pile I am keeping is still huge! I still filled a plastic bag of all the clothes to give away. But I need to go through all teh clothes I have saved from newborn size to this size, and give more away. I onl;y want to keep 1 rubbermaid of clothes from newborn - 12 months for Owen. Otherwise I will keep way too much. I'd like to plan for baby #2 to come in 2009 sometime. So Owen and baby will be 3-4 years apart. If baby #2 is a boy, than he can wear all Owens old clothes - that is why I am keeping any at all. If baby #2 is a girl than I will give it all away. So in 3-4 years Owen will have at least double the amount of clothes saved as we do now. That is why I need to get rid of some now. Otherwise I'll have 10 rubbermaid contaners in my garage full of Owens clothes, and it will be especially hard to get rid of if baby #2 is a girl.

If you look closely, you can see a baby in there...
Owen still isn't feeling well. And he has been particularly crabby today. I needed to clean his room (it was a disaster), so I put Owen in his crib to play. But he kept tiring of tea toys in there. So I put every toy I could find in the crib with him to keep him occupied for 5 minutes to I could tidy his room and put his clothes away. It worked! He was happy just long enough for me to accomplish what I had to.
Gabe and I are starting to feel sick ourselves, so I hope Owen gets better soon. A sick family is not a happy one. At least one of us needs to feel well.
Bananas, yuck!
I gave Owen a whole banana today to try and encourage him to eat it by himself. I thought if he got to "play" with it he might be more inclined to like bananas. It didn’t work. He touched it, made a face, and refused to touch it again. So I smooshed a piece off and fed it to him. He gaged, spit it out, and began to cry. He didn’t stop crying until I gave him some sweet potatoes. He really doesn’t like bananas. I’ll stop trying to feed them to him. Maybe I’ll try again in a few months.

Baby's First Puzzle
Owen was given a "Baby’s first puzzle" as a shower gift (thank you Cher and Crosby!) and is only now starting to play with it. It is for 6 months and up. It is supposed to help babies match shapes, colors, and animals to their sounds.
Owen likes to pull off the animal parts and eat them. Sometimes he pushes the buttons to hear the noises. That’s all he does with it, but I’m pretty sure within a few months he’ll be putting the right parts on the right parts, and learning his colors, words, and noises.

Not a day over 84...
Ear Infection
Gabe just took Owen to the Dr’s office. Owen has an ear infection. That is the cause of the snot face and hunger strike. She said it might be hurting him to swallow, which is why he is refusing food, not because he isn’t hungry. So hopefully with the medicine she gave us, Owen will be feeling better, and eating again, within a day or two.

Still sick
Owen is still quite sick. I am washing all his blankets, toys, and clothes that he may have breathed or snotted on to try and rid him of this cold. But my main concern today is that he is refusing to eat. I know that when I am sick I don’t eat much either, but it is 4:15pm and he has only eaten twice today. And both times it was solid foods (Oat cereal, bananas, and sweet potatoes). He absolutely refuses to drink any liquids – formula or water. Gabe said Owen had a small, hard, black poop at 4am when he was up with him. And another one at 7am. Both very hard, so we know he is majorly constipated. The best thing for him is drink lots. But I can only give him what he will take. I keep offering him liquids, and so I hope he will eventually get enough in him to have a normal poop. He is napping right now (he does that a lot now). Hopefully this evening will be better than yesterday.

Snot face
Owen is sick. He has a cold. He hardly slept at all last night (neither did I) because he couldn’t breathe. At least now he is snotty, so it can all come out (and go all down his face), so at least we can deal with it. He hates the snot sucker, but it works well at getting that garbage out of his head. And I got Vicks VapoRub to put on his throat to help the process along. My poor boy. Oh well, I guess there is a first time for everything.
